The growth of imported cut flower demands in China is unstoppable! Data from China Customs show that during Q1 of 2019, the import volume has reached 1/3 of the total in 2018.

Currently, Ecuador is the biggest cut flower exporting country to China, and the most popular imported flowers in China according to their import volumes are Gypsophila, Roses, Summer Flowers and Preserved Roses.

If you are also interested in the Chinese market, here are a few tips from Flower Expo China Committee. Hope you find them useful!

Ø How to Choose Your Port of Entry?

For Kenyan exporters, Guangzhou is the cheapest with direct flights linking the 2 places. For exporters from Ecuador, Colombia, and other North American countries, there is no big difference among Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, with shipping fees all around USD 3/kg. Dutch exporters have the widest choices with direct flights from the Netherlands to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and Zhengzhou.

Among Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, Shanghai has the best cold storage conditions; Beijing has the most efficient customs clearance procedure; Guangzhou and Beijing can split and merge shipments from different countries to help you cut cost.

Ø What Documents Are Required for Exporting Cut Flowers to China?

∙ Overseas Exporter: Certificate of Origin, Sanitary Certificate, Phytosanitary Certificate, invoice, packing list, contract and airway bill.

∙ Chinese Importer: import registration, contract, and packing list.

Ø Which Countries Enjoy Free Trade Agreements (FTA) With China?

China currently has 21 free/preferential trade agreements signed, and 20 more under negotiation or consideration. Besides, China has also implemented various measures to grant African countries that have diplomatic ties with it, a zero-tariff treatment.
