It is learned from Yunnan Flower Research Institute, YAAS that its bulbous flower research team has cultivated four new varieties of dahlia pinnata which are named “Golf”, “Mona”, “ Zi Xia”, “Lisa”. These four novelties feature the dual-purpose type for potted plant and cut flower.
These four new varieties have been successfully bred through artificial hybridization for 5 years. They are all composite flower heads with diameter of around 6cm to 9m with small heads. As for “Mona” dahlia pinnata, it has stem height of 0.5m to 0.8m with structured flower petals. Its leaves are alternate and ovate or ovate-lanceolate. When blossoms, the involucre is hemispherical. While “Zi Xia” dahlia pinnata, is much like the Mona variety, except for the simple row of ray florets is in purple red and its flower core will be exposed in later period. “Golf” dahlia pinnata is in 0.5m-0.7m height, with outer petals in one cluster. Differs from “Golf”, the “Lisa” dahlia pinnata features hemispherical involucre and its flower petals are in pink.
Dahlia pinnata generally is grown in courtyards. However, the four new varieties which are all in 0.4m-0.5m height could be cultivated as potted plants, but also preserved in clean water vase for four to six days. The new cultivated species greatly diversify the dahlia pinnata.
