In China, couples celebrate Valentine’s Day twice a year. How is that possible? Because every year’s July 7th on the lunar calendar is the Chinese Valentine's Day, which is also known as Qixi Festival. This year’s Qixi Festival will fall on August 9th , but a festive atmosphere has pervaded China’s floral market as early as July.

  • Ordering Flowers Online Ahead to Save Money
It has become a common sense that if you order flowers on Qixi Festival, you will be ripped off badly. Therefore, now more people prefer to put down orders beforehand online. Sensing this change on their customers, many online flower shops have started to offer their flower gift packages with tempting discounts weeks before Qixi Festival. For example, The Beast, a high-end online flower shop, has released a classic red rose series, ranging from 880 RMB to 5880 RMB. Other offline flower retailers have also expanded their business to the Internet, receiving orders through Wechat, Taobao.com, JD.com, etc. There is not yet a research on this year’s Qixi Festival’s online flower sales. But according to last year’s figures, Huaji.com (China’s biggest online flower trade center) alone received nearly 100 million RMB worth of orders during that period. It is believed that this year’s sales will surpass last year, because not only couples between 20 and 50 years old are celebrating this romantic holiday with flowers, many old couples are also giving flowers to their life partners in order to rekindle their passion.

  • Consumers in Favor of Innovative Floral Gifts
Customers’ preferences are always fickle. If you fail to innovate, you fail to stir up their desire to purchase. In an effort to boost their sales, many flower shops have launched innovative floral gifts. For example, soap flowers are now very popular among young people. According to the account of a soap flower wholesaler, from earlier this July till now, she has sold nearly 2 million RMB worth of soap flowers. What’s more, sock bouquets are also their big sellers, because a pair of socks can be an auspicious symbol of a couple. DIY bonsai is also chosen by many people who shoot for a one-of-a-kind gift. Not a few high-class flower brands even collaborate with high-end jewelry, cosmetics, clothing brands and jointly release their luxurious floral gift packages, setting you back from 1,000 to 6,000 RMB.

In an attempt to see the smiles on the face of their other half, people really go all out on this holiday. Thanks to their generosity, many flower shops make a fortune during this time of year. China’s holiday floral consumption is growing speedily every year. If you have missed Qixi Festival, then you have to seize your chances on other holidays like the Spring Festival, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, etc. That Chinese people especially South China people loves flowers in Daily life besides these festivals gestates huge market demand.
